Schutztruppen 1889-1914. In 1889 it was decided to raise
troops for the security and order of German Colonies of
South West Africa, East Africa, Togo and Camerone.
Enlistment was taken from the regular German Army and
Marines, volunteers from colonies, which included the
indigenous population.The unit were comprised of
Officers, Medical Officers, Paymaster, Veterinary
Surgeons, Warrant Officers Inc: Paymaster candidate,
Artificers, Armourers. N.C.O. inc Feldwebels,
Sergeants, Unteroffiziere, Gefreiter. Other ranks Coloured Personnal only in East Africa, Togo and the
Cameroons.Orders of dress were many and the different
uniforms were quite complex and varied, and was one of
the most attractive uniforms worn by the German Army at
this period, and possibly any other time.
