AS90.73 Bugler, The Royal Marines
This Branch has its own
distinct identity. Training takes 24 months and is
musically less intensive than that of a musician. Those
who join this part of the Service are taught to play the
bugle, side drum and E flat herald trumpet. The Buglers
Branch is a vital part of the Band Service. Whilst our
music is of the highest quality, a lot of people come to
watch us for the precision marching displays, to which
the Buglers are very much at the forefront. And it is
the Drum Major, usually recruited from the Buglers
Branch, who makes certain its perfect. As well as
carrying the staff at the head of the Band, he is
responsible for ceremonial and disciplinary matters and
for company administration. Its a demanding job, which
requires effort and commitment.
